Seven Carleton alumni have been named in Ottawa’s 2023 Forty Under 40 list, the region’s biggest business award for young leaders.
“You have to feel for today’s up-and-coming business leaders and entrepreneurs who have risen to the top while feeling the headwinds of a three-year global pandemic,” wrote the Ottawa Business Journal, which runs the initiative jointly with the Ottawa Board of Trade.
“Going forward, these leaders will face a work world that has been reshaped by COVID, a city trying to redefine itself, and an economy that continues to suffer the after-effects of the past several years.”
This year, Carleton’s winners are made up of business, technology, engineering, industrial design and legal professionals.
Jessica Barrow is a partner at Perley-Robertson, Hill & McDougall LLP. She graduated from Carleton’s Institute of Criminology and Criminal Justice in 2009. After attending Carleton, Barrow went on to study law at Queen’s University.
Jacqueline Bonisteel is a Canadian immigration, refugee and citizenship lawyer and partner for the Corporate Immigration Law Firm. A 2011 International Affairs graduate, Bonisteel covers immigration, citizenship and refugee law with particular focus on corporate immigration and litigation.
Dave Hale, Chairman and CEO at Craft&Crew Corp (C&C), attended Carleton and Algonquin College before launching his start-up Soshal in 2010. In 2020, Hale rebranded the global marketing company to C&C. Since its inception, C&C has launched more than 500 business-to-business websites.
Matthew Henley is the Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer at AI Talos, a company is developing AI solutions for early detection of breast cancer. Before joining AI Talos, Henley attended Carleton’s Political Science program. He’s worked at Trexity, Soca Capital and currently holds an advisor role at Capital Angel Network.
Adel Jawhary, graduated from Carleton’s Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering program in 2016 and went on to become CEO of Rydel Roofing. One of Canada’s first roofing franchises, Jawhary has been with the ever-growing company for nearly 12 years.
Emma Mohns, a Criminology and Criminal Justice graduate, is Senior Legal Counsel, Corporate, at Kinaxis Inc. After graduating from Carleton in 2011, Mohns studied law at the University of Ottawa. She has also held positions at LaBarge Weinstein LLP and the Trans Canada Trail.
Rohan Thakar, Managing Partner and Industrial Design Lead at Brash Inc., graduated from Carleton’s Industrial Design program in 2012. Thakar founded Brash — a design agency that offers over 50 services — alongside two fellow Carleton alumni. In his role, Thakar focuses on the physical properties of a product such as casings, manufacturing, materials and finishes, along with the development of user interface design and experience for software products.
