In line with Ottawa Public Health’s social distancing guidelines and this morning’s message from President Benoit-Antoine Bacon, most staff in the Office of the Vice-President (Research and International) are now working remotely.

This includes the Carleton Office for Research Initiatives and Services (CORIS), Industry and Partnership Services (IPS), Office of Research Ethics and Carleton International.

We wish to assure all faculty members that we are committed to maintaining a continuity of research support service at this challenging time. We have instituted a process to secure required signatures for grant applications, contracts and other essential research initiatives. We also continue to provide support to develop grant applications, as well as honours and distinctions nominations.

Additionally, note that the Carleton University Research Ethics Board (CUREB) and the Office of Research Ethics have developed mandatory guidelines relating to human participants research at Carleton, which restrict any in-person interactions during the course of the outbreak. Data collection should instead take place by telephone, videoconference or other online means. Should this not be possible, data collection is to be suspended. Please consult the full guidelines here.

Please know that we are working hard to mitigate disruptions but that minor delays in essential services may occur as the situation continues to unfold.

Should you have any questions regarding the status of a research project, proposal or file, do not hesitate to reach out to your OVPRI staff contact or email susan.smallwood@carleton.ca and your inquiry will be forwarded to the appropriate person within OVPRI.

Any questions regarding the COVID-19 situation that are not answered by Carleton’s COVID-19 information website and its FAQ section should be forwarded to covidinfo@carleton.ca.

Thank you for your collaboration,

Rafik Goubran
Vice-President (Research and International)
