Biography
Allison Everett holds a dynamic and impactful role as the Master of Social Work Field Education Coordinator at Carleton, where she not only oversees the comprehensive management of the graduate field education program, but also actively contributes to its development by creating and implementing field policies.
A seasoned faculty member in the School of Social Work since 2018, Everett is deeply committed to shaping the next generation of social work professionals. Since joining the faculty, Everett has become an integral part of the School of Social Work, assuming the role of founder and co-chair of the School of Social Work’s Black History Committee.
Under Everett’s leadership, the Black History Committee organizes yearly events that spotlight the strengths and challenges of Black Canadians. This initiative reflects her commitment to fostering cultural awareness, promoting social justice, and creating inclusive spaces within the academic and broader community.
As a social work educator, Everett brings her passion for social work to the forefront, teaching courses such as Social Work Values and Ethics, Social Work Practice with Individuals and Families, and Social Work Community Practice. Her teaching approach involves transmitting theoretical knowledge and imparting practical insights from her extensive experience in clinical settings, community development, housing loss prevention, research, and policy. Beyond her academic responsibilities, she actively leads community consultations, trainings, and workshops, contributing her expertise to address critical social issues.
Her outstanding contributions to the field of education have earned her accolades and positioned her as a standout figure in her domain. Most recently, Everett’s exceptional teaching prowess has been recognized with a prestigious nomination as the 2024 Ottawa Graduate Teacher of the Year through FACES Magazine.
Everett’s dedication to community service is further demonstrated through her roles as a Board of Directors on the Friends of the City of Ottawa’s Archives and the Rocena Kidney Foundation. Everett is a member of the Ontario Alliance of Social Work Field Education Directors and is on Carleton University’s Equity and Inclusive Communities Advisory Committee. These positions underscore her commitment to preserving local history and contributing to vital initiatives.
A notable achievement in Everett’s portfolio is her role as the Executive Producer of the highly viewed documentary “Black History is Every Month.” Through this powerful project, she has successfully amplified diverse voices and contributed to a broader understanding of the significant contributions of Black individuals throughout Canada.
Everett stands as a beacon of leadership and dedication in the field of social work, seamlessly integrating her roles as an administrator, educator, advocate, and community leader.
