Carleton University’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and Film Studies program is celebrating both Casablanca’s and the university’s 75th anniversary with a free film screening and discussion of the iconic Hollywood film.

When: Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Where: Room 2200, Richcraft Hall Theatre, Carleton University
Info: Free event and open to the public. Please register at: http://carleton.ca/fass/2017/film-screening-casablanca/.

An informal reception will follow the film and discussion. There will be a wine bar, snacks, and, of course, unlimited popcorn will be provided throughout the evening.

Starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, the classic wartime melodrama made its debut in theatres on November 26, 1942.

As fate would have it, 1942 was also the year a group of visionary citizens opened the doors of Carleton College in Ottawa to students building their careers after the Depression and the Second World War.  Carleton is now a leading post-secondary institution, one that has provided a unique educational experience to more than 150,000 graduates over seven decades.

The evening will be hosted by Marc Fursteneau, professor and director of Carleton’s Film Studies program. He will introduce and briefly consider the significance of Casablanca. The program will include a Warner Brothers short film and cartoon from the time, as well as excerpts from early Carleton University promotional films.
