Between Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017 and Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017, new Carleton University students will be welcomed to campus with a variety of events and activities aimed at ensuring a successful transition to university life.
New students can take part in one of three official programs offered at Carleton. The Centralized Fall Orientation program is open to all students and is the largest undergraduate orientation program at Carleton.
Dynamic orientation programs are also offered to business and engineering students.
Some of the highlights of the large program include:
Residence Move-In Weekend
Volunteers will be assisting first-year students as they carry belongings to their new residence rooms.
When: Saturday, Sept. 2 and Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Residence Quad, Carleton University
Note: Alastair Summerlee, Carleton’s interim president and vice-chancellor, will welcome new students starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Ravens Football Home Opener
Students will show off their Ravens spirit at the first home football game of 2017 against the McMaster Marauders.
When: Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017 from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Where: MNP Park, Carleton University
Opening Ceremonies
New students will be officially welcomed to campus by key Carleton community members and student leaders.
When: Monday, Sept. 4, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Where: Ravens Nest, Athletics Centre, Carleton University
Note: President Summerlee will attend and will provide remarks.
Keynote Speaker: Drew Dudley
Keynote speaker Drew Dudley will discuss everyday leadership and the act of improving each other’s lives.
When: Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017 from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Where: Ravens Nest, Athletics Centre, Carleton University

Shinerama
Shinerama is one of Canada’s largest post-secondary fundraisers, involving nearly 60 universities and colleges from across Canada, raising money for cystic fibrosis research and care.
This year, Carleton’s fundraising goal is $50,000.
Students will visit various locations in Ottawa to fundraise. This event allows students to give back to the Ottawa community and contribute to an amazing cause.
When: Friday, Sept. 8, 2017 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., the busiest time is approximately 1 p.m.
Where: Various locations across Ottawa, including the intersection of Bank Street and Sunnyside Avenue.
Concert: JUNO-Winning Marianas Trench
The JUNO award-winning band Marianas Trench will headline Carleton’s annual Fall Orientation concert.
When: Friday, Sept. 8, 2017 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Where: Parking Lot 12, Carleton University
