Nate Behar and Kwabena Asare, both Carleton Ravens football players, have been named to the CFL Scouting Bureau’s Top-20 list of prospects for the 2017 CFL draft.
Behar, receiver and a fourth year student, is listed at the eighth-best prospect by the CFL Scouting Bureau ahead of his draft year.
“Nate came in as a highly touted recruit and had a major billing with him, and he’s lived up to every bit of that on the field and as a leader of this program,” said head coach Steve Sumarah. “He’s an every down receiver and a guy that can makes plays at the next level. He also has an uncanny knowledge of the game and he’s been a huge part of our success.”
Offensive lineman Kwabena Asare is listed as the 19th best prospect.
“We were lucky enough to jump on Kwabena and see some potential in him while he was playing CEGEP,” said Sumarah. “Since coming to Carleton, his development has been second to none.”
No matter the outcome, Behar still has the option to return to the team in 2017 -’18. Asare’s eligibility will end after the season 2016 -’17 season.
The last time a Raven was drafted was in the spring of 1999. In total, Carleton’s football program has had 19 players suit up in the CFL.
Carleton Ravens Football Builds Momentum
The news comes as the Carleton Ravens football team ascended to the fourth spot in the CIS Top 10 national rankings, climbing up two places from the previous week’s No. 6 poll position.
Behar passed John Dawley (1982-1986) for the new school record for receptions in a career with 136 during an impressive 65-7 victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues on Sept. 10, 2016.
And on Sept. 4, the Ravens picked up a historic win 81-31 victory of over the Western Mustangs, a team that established themselves as the highest scoring unit in CIS regular season history in 2015-’16 with 494 points and 64 touchdowns.
