Between Sunday, Sept. 4 and Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, new Carleton University students will be welcomed to campus with a variety of events and activities aimed at ensuring a successful transition to university life.
New students can take part in one of three official programs offered at Carleton. The centralized Fall Orientation, Mount Olympus, is open to all students and is the largest undergraduate orientation program at Carleton.
Special orientation programs are also offered to business, engineering and graduate students.
Some of the highlights of the centralized Fall Orientation include:
Residence Move-In
Volunteers assist first-year residence students as they carry belongings to residence rooms to ensure move-in is quick and efficient.
When: Saturday, Sept. 3 and Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Residence Quad, Carleton University
Note: Carleton President Roseann Runte will be in attendance, welcoming new students, at 11 a.m. on Saturday and at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
Opening Ceremonies/Ravens Football Home Opener
Orientation week starts off right with a warm welcome from Orientation co-ordinators and a pep rally where new students will learn Carleton chants and show off their Ravens spirit before the first home football game of 2016 against the Western Mustangs.
When: Sunday, Sept. 04, 2016 from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Where: Fieldhouse and MNP Park, Carleton University
Speaker Spotlight: Marc Kielburger from Me to We
Marc Kielburger is a co-founder of the We Movement, which includes We Charity, ME to WE Social Enterprise and WE Day. He speaks with his brother Craig at Me to We events where he discusses the power of youth coming together to change the world.
When: Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016 from 9 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Where: Ravens Nest, Carleton University
Marc Kielburger Meet and Greet
Following his presentation, Kielburger will be in the Raven’s Nest for a meet and greet, offering attendees a chance to get pictures and autographs.
When: Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016 from 10:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Where: Ravens Nest, Carleton University

Shinerama!
Shinerama is Canada’s largest post-secondary fundraiser involving schools from across the nation raising money for Cystic Fibrosis Canada.
This year Carleton’s goal is $70,000.
Students will visit various locations in Ottawa to raise money. This event is a great way for students to give back to the Ottawa community, bond with their teams and contribute to an amazing cause.
When: Friday, Sept. 9, 2016 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Various locations across Ottawa.
Concert: Juno-Winning Walk Off The Earth
Carleton will host the Juno award-winning band Walk Off the Earth at its annual Fall Orientation concert.
When: Friday, Sept. 9, 2016 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Where: Parking Lot 12, Carleton University
Note: There are a limited number of tickets available for purchase by upper-year students at the Carleton University Students’ Association (4th floor University Centre) and the Student Experience Office (430 Tory Building).
About Walk Off The Earth
Walk Off The Earth is an extraordinarily popular band on YouTube. The members won Group of the Year at the 2016 Juno Awards. They first came to mainstream prominence with their cover of the song Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye and have established a loyal following. The five-member group is based in Burlington, Ont.
