Carleton University alumna Komal Minhas has been recognized by the Supersoul 100 list, an Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) initiative that celebrates 100 leaders in various fields working to improve our world. A graduate of the Carleton School of Journalism and Communication in the Faculty of Public Affairs, Minhas and her business partner, film director Erin Bagwell, were recognized by the organization for their work on the film Dream, Girl which tells the stories of female entrepreneurs.

KoMedia was founded by Minhas to tell stories of women and girls from around the world to inspire positive change.

The Supersoul 100 initiative recognizes 100 leaders in various fields organized into categories of “creatives,” “entrepreneurs,” “givers,” “igniters” and “teachers.” Other inductees include well-known figures such as Arianna Huffington, Maria Shriver, Common and Deepak Chopra. The recipients span numerous sectors and occupations, joined by the initiative’s recognition of their common efforts to “elevate humanity.”

Minhas was named as a 2012 “Global Shaper” as part of the World Economic Forum Global Shapers network. The nomination recognized her role as a key change-maker in the Ottawa community.
