Carleton University will host the North American Society for Social Philosophy’s 33rd International Society Philosophy Conference, Power and Public Reason, from July 21 to 23, 2016.

Power is the focus of this year’s conference. The conference theme, Power and Public Reason, presupposes that anyone who exercises power owes an explanation and justification to those over whom it is exercised

Speakers will examine contemporary issues such as:

  • Refugees and immigration,
  • Conflicting ideas of right and wrong,
  • Climate change,
  • Democracy,
  • Disability,
  • First Nations,
  • Gender and feminism,
  • Hate speech, and
  • Racism.

The Social Science and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) of Canada, the Department of Philosophy and the Dean of Arts and Social Sciences at Carleton support this conference.
