Thousands of Carleton Students to Accept Undergraduate and Graduate Degrees
Carleton University will present 15 honorary degrees at its Spring Convocation ceremonies taking place Tuesday, June 7 through Friday, June 10, 2016.
“Our graduates will find boundless inspiration in this year’s distinguished group of honorary doctorate recipients,” said Carleton President Roseann Runte. “Carleton University is delighted to recognize them and their achievements as we send our graduating classes into the world.”
In total, about 4,380 undergraduate and graduate students will receive their degrees. Two ceremonies will be held each day in the University Fieldhouse. The morning ceremonies will take place at 9:30 a.m. and the afternoon ceremonies will begin at 2 p.m.

Honorary Doctorate Recipients
All recipients will be awarded the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa.

Her Excellency Sharon Johnston will be recognized for her careers in rehabilitation science, child psychiatry and as Canadian author, all while serving Canada, especially at Rideau Hall.
His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will be recognized for his successful career as an educator, brilliant leader of many post-secondary institutions, and his service to Canada as governor general.
Tuesday, June 7 at the 2 p.m. ceremony.
Daniel Alfredsson will be recognized for his outstanding contributions to Canadian hockey and, in particular, his commitment to the community through philanthropic efforts that include mental health awareness and advocacy for equality of athletes, regardless of their sexual orientation.
Gail Asper will be recognized for her humanitarian work, advocacy for human rights and leading volunteer service to the community.
Wednesday, June 8 at the 9:30 a.m. ceremony.
Jodi White will be recognized for a distinguished career in journalism, public service and volunteer leadership.
Wednesday, June 8 at the 2 p.m. ceremony.
Margaret Bloodworth will be recognized for her outstanding career in public service and leadership service to the community.
Thursday, June 9 at the 9:30 a.m. ceremony.
Karim Rashid will be recognized for his outstanding and internationally acclaimed contributions to the profession of industrial design and popular culture.
Peter Coughlin will be recognized for his leadership in business development, architectural heritage and his volunteer service in the fields of health and education.
Thursday, June 9 at the 2 p.m. ceremony.
John Ruddy will be recognized for his leadership as an entrepreneur and developer contributing to the fabric of Ontario’s infrastructure and as a patron of the arts, history, and sports.
Tom Jenkins will be recognized for his stellar contributions to education, enterprise and innovation in both the public and private sectors in Canada.
Friday, June 10 at the 9:30 a.m. ceremony.
Bonnie Patterson will be recognized for her leadership and service to Trent University and to all universities in Ontario as she guided them through changing times and built a strong network of shared vision.
John Daniel O’Leary will be recognized for his lifelong commitment and leadership in advancing literacy among marginalized and under-served communities and his service to the unique educational opportunity offered by Frontier College.
Friday, June 10 at the 2 p.m. ceremony.
Barbara McInnes will be recognized for her service to the community as a volunteer and local organizer and for her development of the Community Foundation of Ottawa.
Jane Urquhart will be recognized for her extraordinary talent and success as an author, enriching Canada’s literary canon and the lives of her readers.
Tony Urquhart will be recognized for his fine and internationally recognized contributions to the visual arts in Canada.
