Carleton University’s Ottawa Leadership Luncheon will feature graduate Deborah Tunis (BJ/73), special coordinator for Syrian Refugee Resettlement at Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.

Deborah Tunis will speak about the journey that led her from Carleton through a 40-year career in Canada’s public service working at the National Gallery of Canada, Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Privy Council Office, Human Resources and Social Development Canada on a range of policy issues that culminated in her role in the initiative to welcome 25,000 Syrian refugees to Canada.
This national project continues, with the support of private sponsors, collaboration between governments, and resettlement service providers across Canada.
The Ottawa Leadership Luncheon series, hosted twice annually by the Carleton University Alumni Association, feature prominent alumni or community leaders who bring topics of interest to alumni and the community.

About Deborah Tunis:
Deborah Tunis was named Special Coordinator for Syrian Refugee Resettlement in October 2015. She works with provinces, territories, municipalities, settlement and resettlement agencies, sponsorship agreement holders, corporate donors and Canadians to provide supports to Syrian refugees. She has over 40 years of experience in the Canadian public service, having spent the first 14 years of her career at the National Gallery of Canada working on their building project before moving onto a variety of intergovernmental and policy issues (international trade, children, disability, homelessness) and leadership on settlement and integration of newcomers. She has a Bachelor of Journalism from Carleton (1973), a Master of Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University (1989) and has completed the Advanced Management Programme at Oxford University.
