Carleton University is the first Canadian post-secondary institution to achieve a Gold, Silver and Bronze certifications in three key Excellence Canada standards.
Excellence Canada has confirmed that Carleton University achieved the Gold Level in Healthy Workplace Certification as well as Bronze in the Mental Health at Work standard.
The Health Workplace Certification drills down into operational elements that affect psychological and physical health and safety, and helps organizations accelerate improvement in productivity and engagement. The Mental Health at Work certification program provides guidance for changing how mental health and mental illness are approached in the workplace
Carleton has also been awarded the Silver Level in the Excellence, Innovation and Wellness standard, an initiative led by Carleton’s Finance and Administration division. The standard enables planning with a holistic approach that respects the intricate relationships existing in every organization between strategic goals, strategic drivers, customers, partners/suppliers and people, regardless of size or industry.
“This achievement is part of a larger cultural shift at Carleton,” said Ed Kane, assistant vice-president (University Services). “It is yet another milestone on our journey toward making the university a healthy and dynamic workplace for the entire community.”
These announcements mark the achievement of one of the key performance measures of the university’s five-year Strategic Integrated Plan (SIP). The university identified successful progress of Excellence Canada’s Standards as an action item in the Organizational Excellence theme of the SIP when it launched in 2013.
The university will be honoured on Oct. 29, 2015 in Toronto at the Performance Excellence Summit and Canada Awards for Excellence.
