Carleton University’s Sprott School of Business is proud to announce its new Master of Accounting (MAcc), a rigorous program that will provide students with a gateway to a career as a professional accountant and achieve the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.

The MAcc is accredited by the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario. Delivered over 16 months, including two summers of full-time study plus a four-month internship, the MAcc goes beyond the requirements of CPA Canada by requiring students to engage in applied research and take all four CPA electives, thereby broadening the student’s skill set and future employment opportunities.

“MAcc graduates will emerge with a master’s degree, work experience and a clear path toward the CPA designation,” said Darrell Herauf, director of the MAcc.

Graduates of the program will be exempt from the CPA Canada Professional Education Program (PEP) and proceed directly to the CPA Canada Common Final Examination (CFE), the final step in becoming a Chartered Professional Accountant. Carleton’s is the only CPA-accredited post-secondary program in Ottawa.

The alternative route to professional certification as a chartered professional accountant is a two-year online program.

“The program capitalizes on the faculty members’ expertise and extensive experience working with the professional accounting bodies.” said Herauf. “Over the past 30 years, Sprott faculty members have designed, developed and taught numerous courses and developed and marked thousands of exams for the professional accounting bodies.”

Students in the MAcc will benefit from small class sizes, face-to-face interaction with professors and extensive use of cases to simulate real-world learning.

The program is now accepting applications until March 1, 2015 and classes will begin in May 2015.
