The Carleton United Nations Society international relations debate team took four top awards and was ranked the top Canadian university at the internationally recognized McGill Model United Nations Conference (McMUN) in late January.
“McMUN is the most prestigious conference of its type in Canada and is recognized on the international circuit,” said Jillian White, vice-president of communications with the Carleton United Nations Society. “This year’s conference included the best teams from Canada and around the world.”
Students Samir Kassam and Sayan (Neel) Basu-Ray were both named Best Delegate, while Brandon Fick and Laura Mitchell were named Outstanding Delegate.
This isn’t the society’s first successful conference of the current school year. In fall 2012, the society received eight awards and was named best delegation at the Queen’s Model United Nations Conference. This month, they will compete at the Harvard National Model United Nations Conference in the United States.
