Carleton has bestowed its highest alumni honour, the A.D. Dunton Alumni Award of Distinction, on Dave Carroll, BAHons/93. Carroll, a singer, performer and entrepreneur, became a YouTube sensation when his song United Breaks Guitars went viral.

“I am extremely honoured to accept this year’s A.D. Dunton Award,” said Carroll. “I graduated with an honours degree in Political Science but my music career and all of the good things that have transpired and evolved through my music began as a student at Carleton. It’s quite likely that without my Carleton University experience, many of my highest achievements would have gone unaccomplished. For that reason this award is especially humbling, coming from the place where it all began for me and with such a large pool of talented alumni worth considering.”

As part of his acceptance, Carroll played a short concert to a group of music fans from the Carleton community.
