Piotr Dutkiewicz, professor of Political Science and a director of the Centre for Governance and Public Management at Carleton University, met with Russian President Vladimir Putin during 9th annual Valdai Club summit. The summit took place in St. Petersburg and Moscow from Oct. 21 to Oct. 25, 2012. Its theme was The Future Is Being Made Today: Scenarios for Russia’s Economic Development. Dutkiewicz, along with his fellow summit participants, met with Putin for more than two hours during the summit.

Approximately 100 Russian and foreign economists, political analysts and international relations experts discussed macroeconomic development scenarios for Russia amid the growing instability of foreign markets and domestic debates on possible ways to reform the Russian economy. Experts analyzed the main trends in the Russian and global economies and the biggest international and national challenges. They also assessed Russian development scenarios up to 2030 and prepared economic policy recommendations based on existing and future conditions for Russia’s economic growth and sustainable development.
