The Ontario provincial has government announced new anti-bullying legislation that will allow gay-straight clubs in all schools. It will also allow schools to permanently expel, rather than suspend, students for bullying.

Danielle Quigley is an expert in the motivations among children for physically and relationally aggressive behaviour, specifically anger, jealousy, social motivation and rejection sensitivity. She has co-created and delivered to the Girl Guides of Canada a national training program to foster healthy relationships and help prevent social aggression among Canadian girls. Quigley is working on a project examining data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Children and Youth for relationships between childhood relational aggression and substance use.

Christine Polihronis is a first year MA student in the Department of Psychology. Her research interests include examining personality traits related to aggression, moral disengagement, friendship jealousy and friendship quality in girls. Other research interests include mental health of aggressive individuals and victims, Pervasive Developmental Disorder and relational aggression. Her research is looking at why good people intentionally bully others and why bystanders witness bullying events and do not intervene. She aims to understand how attitudes that support bullying have an impact on the school climate, which leads to involvement in bullying, victimization and, most importantly, bystanding.
