Carleton University will welcome His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah of Brunei on Sept. 16.
Media are invited to a photo opportunity at the beginning of his visit, which will include a tour of Carleton’s new Canal Building, a model of sustainability which houses programs in biomedical, energy, environmental and aerospace engineering. The Crown Prince will also visit Carleton’s athletics facilities and Sports Medicine Clinic.

Background:
His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah was proclaimed the Crown Prince on Aug. 10, 1998 and a Senior Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office on May 24, 2005. He was reappointed to the same position last year.
His father, Hassinal Bolkia, is the Sultan of Brunei who has ruled for more than four decades.
Brunei, officially the State of Brunei Darussalam, is a moderate Islamic absolute monarchy on the northern coast of the island of Borneo, which it shares with Malaysia and Indonesia. Brunei is the third-largest oil producer in Southeast Asia and the fourth-largest producer of liquefied natural gas in the world.
The High Commission of Canada in Bandar Seri Begawan opened in 1995, the same year that Brunei established a High Commission in Ottawa.
The Crown Prince is visiting Canada from Sept. 15 to 17.
