Angus Mortimer, a Carleton University music student, will compete in the 2011 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Szeged, Hungary. Mortimer will race in the K-4 competition at the championships, which are set to take place from August 17-21.

The 25-year-old Carleton student recently competed in three K-1 World Championship qualifying events in Europe. He placed 13th in the 1000-metre event in Racice, Czech Republic. Shortly after, he came in sixth in the 1000-metre event and fourth in the 500-metre in Duisburg, Germany.

Mortimer competed in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, finishing ninth in the K-4 1000-metre event. In 2007, he won three medals at the Pan Am Games in Brazil; gold in the K-1 1000m and silver in the K-1 500m and K-4 1000m events. He hopes to qualify for the 2012 Olympics in London.
