As part of Doors Open Ottawa 2011, the public is invited to peek behind the scenes at the Carleton University Immersive Media Studio (CIMS). Doors will be open on Saturday, June 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

CIMS is working on projects that involve the use of digital technologies for the documentation and representation of architecture, including heritage conservation, planning and design. You will be able to see a wide range of 3D and 4D digital projects that capture everything from the microscopic (models of biochemical processes in your brain) to the massive (a documentation and planning study for a 600-hectare site that includes the village of Batawa.

The campus radio station, CKCU, is also participating in Doors Open. Canada’s oldest campus community radio station broadcasts in 18 languages. The station is a pioneer in community broadcasting, providing an alternative to commercial radio and the CBC. There will be non-stop tours with sound-editing workshops on both June 4, also from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Parking is available in Lot 1. Look for the open door to the CIMS studio, which is located in the VSIM Building at the back of the parking lot. CKCU is in close walking distance in the University Centre. A campus map is available at www.carleton.ca.

Please note that both venues will not be open on June 5.
