Carleton will become the first university in Canada to complete a major construction project supported by the recent federal and provincial stimulus funding program when it opens its new Canal Building.
The ceremony will be attended by the Hon. John Baird, federal Government House Leader, and Ottawa Centre MPP Yasir Naqvi, among other politicians and dignitaries hosted by Gisèle Samson-Verreault, chair of Carleton’s Board of Governors, and President Roseann O’Reilly Runte.

Background:
Carleton held a groundbreaking ceremony of the Canal Building in June 2009, one-half of its extensive Waterfront Project. The federal and provincial governments invested $52.5 million in the two buildings, the single largest capital investment in Carleton’s history.
The Canal Building will house programs in biomedical, energy, environmental and aerospace engineering. The River Building, which will open later this year, will be home to the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs, the School of Journalism and Communication and the School of Public Policy.
