Carleton University has announced that Duane McNair will take on the role of Vice-President (Finance and Administration), effective December 2, 2024.

A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) who holds a Master of Business Administration and has over 24 years of senior leadership experience in financial and administrative operations, McNair comes to Carleton from Algonquin College where he has served as their Vice-President, Finance and Administration since 2010.

“Duane brings extensive expertise in strategic financial and operational leadership,” said Jerry Tomberlin, Interim President and Vice-Chancellor.

“His passion and proficiency will be a great asset to Carleton as we develop and implement plans and strategies that support the university and drive success.”

While at Algonquin, McNair successfully managed a $96 million budget, led a team of over 500 staff and implemented strategic initiatives that significantly enhanced the college’s financial health and operational efficiency. He also played a key role in major infrastructure projects.

The university’s hiring advisory committee was impressed with his collaborative approach and focus on innovation, and commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility, leading the implementation of an Indigenous wayfinding strategy at Algonquin.

“I am very excited to join Carleton, recently named one of Canada’s top comprehensive universities,” said McNair. “This is a pivotal time in higher education and I look forward to contributing to an institution that’s on the rise and has great momentum.”

McNair will succeed Interim Vice-President Angela Marcotte, who has led the Finance and Administration teams since August, 2024.
