Karim H. Karim
Professor, School of Journalism and Communication at Carleton University


Karim is available to discuss the relationship between the Quebec government’s secularism policies and violence against Muslims and the growth of white supremacist violence.

Karim was the Carleton Centre for the Study of Islam’s director from 2013 to 2021 and previously served as director of the Institute of Ismaili Studies (U.K.) and Carleton’s School of Journalism and Communication, where he teaches.

His areas of expertise include the depiction of Muslims, inter-cultural communication and diaspora. Canada’s government has honoured him for his work in fostering inter-religious co-operation and Carleton has designated him Chancellor’s Professor, the university’s highest scholarly position. CBC’s program Ideas broadcast his 2007 distinguished lecture on multiculturalism to a global audience.

Jean-Francois Ratelle
Research Professor, Institute of European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies (EURUS) at Carleton University


Ratelle can discuss issues related to extremism, hate and terrorism.

Ratelle is an affiliated researcher at the Institute of EURUS. His main research interests include violent extremism, insurgencies and foreign fighters. He frequently consults with government agencies and international organizations on questions regarding security issues such as violent extremism and terrorism, radicalization inside Muslim communities, and rehabilitation programs aimed at foreign fighters and other extremists.
