Lab is the first in Canada to host private standalone 5G network

Media are invited to attend the official opening of the Ericsson-Carleton Mobile Wireless Lab in Carleton University’s ARISE building. The new lab will enhance the educational experience for graduate and post-graduate students by focusing on research and innovation programs. A first in Canada, this R&D 5G Lab is unique as there will be an Ericsson Indoor Solution – 5G Radio Dot System network – inside the building to develop, test and optimize state-of the-art 5G applications – e.g. 3D indoor localization solutions and virtual and augmented reality over 5G for telehealth, robotics, smart factories and education. No other lab in Canada currently exists where graduate students and researchers have access to a private standalone 5G network. Members of the research team will be on site to demonstrate some of the capabilities of the network on smartphone devices to the media.

When: Wednesday, September 28, 2022 from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m.
Where:
5th floor atrium (5400), ARISE Building, Carleton University
Note: Lab tours and demonstrations will be available to media.

Poster presentations related to innovative 5G research will be on site to show examples of current and future use of this unique 5G Lab infrastructure.

In addition to establishing this unique lab, Carleton and Ericsson have developed a joint training program for researchers and information technology personnel on campus, enabling the effective management of the 5G lab.

The Ericsson-Carleton Mobile Wireless Lab is a large part of the existing multi-year Ericsson-Carleton Partnership for Research and Leadership in Wireless Networks, created to expand experiential learning and research in wireless communications.  The partnership also includes a research chair, student fellowships, 5G curriculum / educational courses and research projects related to 5G wireless technology.
