Carleton University will be closed for the holiday season from Friday, Dec. 24, 2021 through Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022 inclusively, and will re-open on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022.
Due to the unprecedented spread of the Omicron variant, and following discussions with public health authorities, the Council of Ontario Universities, and other institutions in the province, Carleton will hold the first three weeks of the winter 2022 courses fully online. In-person instruction is planned to start Monday, Jan. 31 for courses currently scheduled to be delivered in-person
During the holiday closure period, all campus buildings will be locked. Until Jan. 31, employees should only come to campus to perform necessary work that cannot be conducted remotely. Research that cannot be performed from home can continue to proceed on campus following public health guidelines and indoor capacity limits. Authorized students, faculty and staff may gain access using their Campus Cards.
Campus Safety Services (CSS) will provide access to buildings on an emergency basis only. The CSS Communication Centre can be reached at 613-520-4444 in emergencies, and 613-520-3612 for general enquiries.
All COVID-19 protocols and procedures remain in effect.
Some facilities continue to operate during the holiday season, the following information reflects variations on this closure.
MacOdrum Library
As part of the university’s response to the spread of the Omicron variant, the Library is introducing changes to its operations this December and January. These plans will be updated as needed.
From Dec. 24 to Jan. 4, the Library will be closed.
From Jan. 5 to 7, curbside pickup, scan-on-demand and mail delivery will resume. No study spaces will be available. The Research Data Centre (RDC) will be open, researchers will have access from the receiving door.
From Jan. 10 to 31 the library’s Level 2 will be open for study and limited face to face services. The print collection will be accessible by scan-on-demand, curbside pickup, or mail delivery. Archives and Special Collections consultations will be made by appointment only. New Sun Joy Maclaren Adaptive Technology Centre consultations will be made by appointment only. The RDC will remain open.

Residence and Dining Services
Five residence buildings will remain open for the holiday period: Frontenac, Glengarry, Leeds, Lennox and Addington and Prescott. Only those residents who have registered, received permission, and paid to remain will have access to their rooms from Dec. 24, 2021, until noon, Jan. 9, 2022.
The last meal served in the caf will end at 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 24, 2021. During the closure period, no Dining Services outlets will be open. The first meal served in the caf for the winter term will be dinner on Jan. 9, 2022 starting at 4 p.m.
Carleton Athletics Facilities
Following guidance from the university and public health authorities, Carleton Recreation and Athletics’ facilities, camps and programs will remain closed until Sunday, Jan. 9, 2022. At this time and subject to public health guidance, Carleton Athletics plans to reopen facilities on Monday, Jan. 10, 2022. Those registered in camps cancelled due to this closure as well as all impacted facility rentals will be refunded with no penalty. Read more on the Carleton Athletics website.
