About the Talk
The COVID-19 pandemic has revealed the vulnerability of long-term care homes throughout the world, with many countries reporting a troubling number of cases and deaths in these facilities. While infection prevention and control protocols are relatively well-established for hospital settings, these protocols have not been examined to the same extent for long-term care homes when developed and deployed rapidly to respond to COVID-19.
Researchers have recognized the neglect of human factors, principles and research methods in infection prevention and control for long-term care homes to be a weakness in the healthcare field.
In this talk, Trudel will discuss how she and a team of researchers at Carleton will study how Canada’s long-term care homes infrastructure must be redeveloped in order to balance infection prevention and control with residents’ quality of life and care, both during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.
About the Speaker
Trudel is an award-winning industrial designer and ergonomist/human factors professional with over 10 years of industry experience in architecture and health-care planning. Her published research in design for infection prevention and control has been cited by researchers from Johns Hopkins University, Emory University School of Medicine and the Centres for Disease Control.
