March 26, 2020 – 5 p.m.
To All Members of the Carleton Community,
Under the Essential Services Order issued by the Province of Ontario in effect since March 24, organizations, unless their operations are deemed essential, are only permitted to continue to operate remotely. In order to comply with this government regulation and to keep our community safe in a new campus environment where most people are working from home, we have put in place a new building access protocol.
Most notably, as of 4:00 p.m. on Monday March 30, 2020, we will be limiting access to university buildings to authorized individuals only, as approved by their Chair/supervisor, and public access will be restricted.
The Carleton Building Authorities have been asked to arrange for the necessary key or card access for those individuals required to perform functions that are essential to the safe operation of the university. If you deliver an essential service that requires on-campus presence and have not yet been contacted, please contact your Chair/supervisor or your Building Authority.
The Essential Services Order specifically allows temporary access to facilities, even for activities not listed as essential, for certain limited purposes including maintenance, security, and critical matters that cannot be attended to remotely. It also allows temporary access to obtain materials necessary for the organization to operate remotely. Individuals working remotely should only come to campus for these limited purposes and those exceptions described below.
Staff and faculty who need to retrieve essential items from their offices are encouraged to do so before 4:00 p.m. on Monday, March 30, 2020.
We also appreciate that faculty and staff who are working remotely may need to occasionally access their office, lab, or classroom. Access requests as permitted by the Essential Services Order on an as-needed basis can be directed to Campus Safety Services (CSS) at CampusSafetyServices@cunet.carleton.ca or at 613-520-3612.
For your safety, if you are coming onto campus and are working alone, please remember to:
- Notify your Chair/supervisor
- Arrange for access
- If you are undertaking medium/high risk activities, please refer to Carleton’s Working Alone Guidelines or contact Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) at ehs@carleton.ca
- Contact Campus Safety Services (CSS) once on campus to inform them of your location and estimated time of departure
- Take advantage of the Safe Walk and Working After Hours services. Call CSS at 613-520-3612 to arrange for these services
Campus Safety Services and Facilities Management and Planning thank you for your co-operation in implementing these measures.
Sincerely,
Suzanne Blanchard
