Carleton University’s Centre for Holocaust Education and Scholarship (CHES) will participate in the Yom Hasoah V’Hagvurah Cross-Canada Virtual Holocaust Remembrance Day Commemoration.

All Canadian Holocaust centres, including CHES, were invited to participate and share programs. CHES shared 10 recorded Holocaust testimonials, which are available on CHES website, as well as pictures of local survivors presenting to local schools and a few words from CHES Director Mina Cohn.

A day to remember the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust, Yom Hashoah V’Hagvurah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) is designated by the State of Israel on the Hebrew date of 27 Nisan. Register for this important online cross-Canada Holocaust remembrance presentation when people will come together to mark the 75th anniversary of the end of the Holocaust, remember the victims and pay tribute to the resilience and faith of the Canadian community of survivors.

The unfortunate cancellation of in-person Yom Hashoah gatherings has provided an unprecedented opportunity to collaborate with communities across Canada, when solidarity and togetherness is more important than ever. The program will include greetings from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, curated films with survivor testimony, musical performances and prayers.

There will also be participatory elements where participants can contribute to the program from home. The host for the evening will be Toronto-based actor Jake Epstein, best known for his work on Degrassi, Designated Survivor and Suits. Epstein is the son of Kathy Kacer, the award-winning author of The Secret of Gabi’s Dresser and other Holocaust-related books for young adults. Please join in this meaningful program, presented with the Azrieli Foundation, March of the Living Canada, and the Canadian Society for Yad Vashem.
