The following information applies to all administrative staff including continuing, term, and casual employees.

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has placed additional pressure on all Carleton employees. In response to this, we would like to remind all staff of the resources that are available to them during this difficult time. As the situation develops, we will continue to adjust and update you as necessary.

Leave for Family Care-Giving

We are committed to continuing to support our staff with their care-giving responsibilities. These responsibilities include situations where another family member is ill or in self-isolation, or where their child’s school is closed due to COVID-19.

All staff who cannot return to regular duties as a result of care-giving responsibilities must request an accommodation from their manager. Potential accommodations may include working alternate hours, other flexibility options, requesting a leave (e.g. special, annual) from work, or a combination of these options. In the event that you are proposing an alternate arrangement, please check with Human Resources (humanresources@carleton.ca) prior to implementation.

All staff who have requested a flexible work arrangement will need to develop a work plan with their manager to ensure that their work responsibilities are fulfilled. Where a staff member needs to be home to take care of family and is unable to work some or all of the time, they will need to take leave (e.g. special, annual).

Employee & Family Assistance Program (EFAP)

The Employee & Family Assistance Program (EFAP) is a free comprehensive program that helps Carleton employees and their families resolve a range of problems including personal crises, family concerns, social and emotional adjustments, workplace difficulties, separation and loss, as well as specialized issues related to child care, financial, legal and elder care resource support. A first appointment can be booked within 72 hours of a call. Any interactions you have through the EFAP are confidential. Further information on the services available can be found on our EFAP provider’s website (fseap.ca/myfseap).

Individuals requiring support from the EFAP should call 613-725-5676. For After Hours Emergencies, please call (844) 720-1212 and request the EFAP secretary. Please identify yourself as a Carleton University employee or family member when requesting support.
