To all Members of the Carleton Community,

On behalf of President Benoit-Antoine Bacon, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Amber Lannon as Carleton’s University Librarian.

Amber has served as Carleton’s Interim University Librarian since Jan. 1, 2020. She joined Carleton in July 2016 as Associate University Librarian (Academic Services). In this role, she was responsible for a significant portfolio that included the Research Support Services, Access Services, and Archives and Research Collections departments.

Amber Lannon

Amber has a wide breadth of experience with managing large teams in an academic library setting. Prior to joining Carleton, she held various leadership roles at McGill University’s library. She served as the Head of Operations, and later as the Head Librarian, in the Humanities and Social Sciences branch before taking on the Acting Associate Dean of User Services role where she oversaw nine branches and led program development.

Amber is an excellent choice for this role and has already proven to be a valuable part of our academic leadership team. On a personal note, I have been impressed by what Amber has accomplished as Interim University Librarian during the last four months, especially given the unprecedented challenges we are all facing due to the public health crisis.

The advisory search committee was unanimous in its recommendation and highlighted Amber’s commitment to Carleton students and researchers, her considerable experience and her collaborative and supportive leadership qualities. On behalf of the committee, I thank everyone from the Carleton community who contributed to the consultation process that helped to inform the work of the committee during this search process.

Please join me in congratulating Amber on this appointment.

Sincerely,

Jerry Tomberlin
Provost and Vice-President (Academic)
