Update 6 – 6:23 p.m. – January 11
The tunnel section previously closed as a result of the water main break has reopened as of 5 p.m. Friday, Jan 11. All building entrances have also reopened.
Please note that the central elevator is the only one that is operational at this time. Crews are continuing repairs on elevator #2 and it will remain out of service until further notice.
Earlier today, the water main break was repaired and Southam Hall reopened, with normal class schedules resuming. All washrooms in Southam Hall are open.
Update 5 – 7:00 a.m. – January 11
The water main break has been repaired and Southam Hall is open as of 7 a.m. today. Classes will resume normal schedules. All washrooms in Southam Hall are now open.
Building entrances to Southam Hall will be open except the lobby entrance to elevator #2 and the entrance to Kailash Mital Theatre (Theatre A) facing the library.
Please note that the central elevator is the only one that is operational at this time.
The tunnel remains closed between the entrance to Theatre B and the entrance to the Library parking garage. Work will continue today at the excavation site and in the tunnel area. For safety reasons, please respect all barricades and do not enter restricted areas.

Update 4 – 3:37 p.m. – January 10
Southam Hall will reopen on Friday, Jan. 11 at 7 a.m. and classes will resume. All building entrances will be open except the lobby entrance to elevator #2 and the entrance to Kailash Mital Theatre (Theatre A) facing the library.
Please note that the central elevator is the only one that is operational. All washrooms in Southam Hall remain out of service until further notice. The closest washrooms are in the Loeb Building.
The tunnel remains closed between the entrance to Theatre B and the entrance to the Library parking garage.
For safety reasons, please respect all barricades and do not enter restricted areas.
Update 3 – 7:25 a.m. – January 10
Southam Hall will be closed again today in order to continue the repairs from the water main break that occurred yesterday. There is no access to classrooms and the tunnel remains closed from the Tunnel Junction Café to Loeb Building and Southam Hall. Water service to the building remains unavailable.
Classes in Southam Hall have been relocated.
For safety reasons, please respect all barricades and avoid the area if possible.
An update will be provided when there is news to share.
Update 2 – 4:36 p.m. – January 9
Southam Hall will be closed tonight starting at 5:30 p.m. in order to continue the repairs from the water main break earlier today. The tunnel remains closed from the Tunnel Junction Café to Loeb Building and Southam Hall.
Evening classes in Southam Hall have been relocated. Scheduling and Examination Services will email affected students.
For safety reasons, please respect all barricades and avoid the area if possible.
An update will be provided in the morning.
Update 1 – 10:16 a.m. – January 9
Crews are working on repairs and in order to perform the work, the tunnel will be closed from Tunnel Junction Café to Loeb Building and Southam Hall. The water in Southam Hall has been turned off and washrooms in the building are closed. Elevators have been shut down. Repairs are expected to take the full day to complete.
Classrooms in Southam Hall are closed and classes are being moved or rescheduled today wherever possible. For any questions on classes, please contact scheduling@carleton.ca.
