Carleton University’s Paul Menton Centre for Students with Disabilities (PMC) will present the 27th Dr. John Davis Burton Award. Celebrating the legacy of Burton, the honour is given to a student who has made a significant contribution toward awareness, equality and integration of people with disabilities within the educational community.

This year’s recipient, third-year Carleton student Rebecca André, will be recognized as an outstanding advocate for accessible education.

When: Monday, Nov. 25, 2019, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Where: Carleton University Art Gallery, St. Patrick’s Building, Carleton University
Info: Registration is required and is available online. A campus map can be found here.

Media are invited to attend the event.

André’s dedication to positively impacting the community for others sets her apart as an advocate, leader and innovator for accessibility, equity and growth.

As a full-time student, André balances her many contributions to the Carleton community. During her first year at Carleton, she started to volunteer with the PMC and has served as a student ambassador for the former Carleton University Accessible Experiential Learning program – now known as ACT to Employ.

This award recognizes select post-secondary students from Algonquin College, Carleton University, La Cité Collégiale and the University of Ottawa for their exceptional contributions to accessibility within their institution and the community.
