Carleton University will welcome new students to campus as part of Fall Orientation taking place Sept. 2 to 7. The action-packed week will help students get to know campus as they take part in exciting activities and meet classmates.

New students can participate in one of three official programs. The Centralized Fall Orientation is open to all students and is the largest undergraduate orientation program. Faculty-specific orientation programs are also offered to business and engineering students.

Media are invited to attend the following Orientation Week events:

Residence Move-In Weekend
Volunteers will be assisting first-year students as they carry belongings to their new residence rooms.

When: Saturday, Sept. 1 and Sunday, Sept. 2, 2018, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Residence Quad, Carleton University
Note: Carleton President Benoit-Antoine Bacon will welcome students arriving to Carleton on Saturday, Sept. 1 beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Opening Ceremonies
Orientation Week officially kicks-off with the opening ceremonies – a welcome to all new students to Carleton.

When: Monday, Sept. 3, 2018, from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
Where:
Ravens’ Nest, Carleton University
Note: Bacon will provide welcoming remarks.

Shinerama
One of Canada’s largest post-secondary fundraisers, Shinerama involves nearly 60 universities and colleges from across Canada to raise money for cystic fibrosis research and care. This year, Carleton’s fundraising goal is $50,000.

Students will visit various locations throughout Ottawa as they give back to the Ottawa community and contribute to a great cause.

When: Friday, Sept. 7, 2018 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the busiest time is approximately 1 p.m.
Where: Various locations across Ottawa, including the intersection of Bank Street and Fifth Avenue.

Concert: Scott Helman and Kardinal Offishall
Artists Scott Helman and Kardinal Offishall will headline the annual Fall Orientation concert.

When:
 Friday, Sept. 7, 2018 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Where: Parking Lot 12, Carleton University

About Scott Helman:
While Scott Helman may seem like a new Canadian artist, he has been making music since he was 15. At 21, he is already a platinum certified artist with this single “Bungalow.” He has also earned two Juno nominations, toured with Walk Off The Earth and has performed at the 2015 MMVAs and 2016 Juno awards. His debut 2017 album, Hôtel de Ville, has his most popular song “PDA,” which has over 2 million Youtube views. Combined with his other songs, he has over 3.5 million views on Youtube.

About Kardinal Offishal:
One of Canada’s most famous hip hop artists, Kardinal Offishall has had a career that spans over a decade. He has released five albums, and has been nominated for 10 Juno awards. He is best known for the certified triple platinum song “Dangerous” featuring Akon, which also became a top five hit on the Billboard Hot 100.
