In 2018, in addition to the Academy Award, he won the Critics Choice Award and the British Academy of Film and Television Award for Best Production Design for his work on Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water. He was a Canadian Screen Award winner for Achievement in Art Direction / Production Design for his work on Pompeii and was awarded a Canadian Gemini for his work designing the musical special Inspired by Bach.
As a child, Austerberry travelled extensively with his parents, including three years living in Uganda. As film has taken him to locations around the world, travel is a constant source of inspiration.
