Carleton’s Office for Chemistry Outreach will be hosting the 11th annual Chemistry Magic Show and hands-on activity centre. This event will inspire, entertain and inform the public with visually powerful chemistry demonstrations, highlighting the scientific principles behind them, and explaining the applications and impacts on our everyday lives.

Chemistry Magic Show
When: Saturday, March 3, 2018, showtimes are at 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3:45 p.m.
Where: Room 2200, Second Floor, Richcraft Hall, Carleton University
Info: Seating is limited. Tickets will be handed out on a first-come, first-served basis at the reception area on the ground floor of Richcraft Hall on the day of the event. For more information on ticketing, please see the event website.

The one-hour magic show will feature amazing glow-in-the-dark substances, fantastic colour changes, spontaneous combustion reactions and more. This year’s show will include new tricks to entertain returning attendees.

If the theatre is full, nearby classrooms will be available for attendees to watch the show on large screens. For those unable to make it to Carleton’s campus, there will also be an online live stream of the magic show performances.

Hands-on Activity Centre
When: Saturday, March 3, 2018, open from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Where: The Super Lab, Room 204, Second Floor, Steacie Building, Carleton University

Families will have the chance to use liquid nitrogen to create ice cream, learn about pleasant and not-so-pleasant smells, the chemistry of wine and chocolate, as well as the amazing fluorescent and phosphorescent properties of some minerals.

Admission is free, but donations – both cash and non-perishable food items – for the Ottawa Food Bank are welcome. (Suggested donation is $3 or one or two food items per person)
