The Carleton Initiative for Parliamentary and Diplomatic Engagement and the Ambassador of Germany to Canada, Sabine Sparwasser, will host the expert panel Women in International Trade: Driving Economic Empowerment and Growth.

The expert panel will explore how women in international trade can advance the themes of Canada’s G7 presidency: investing in growth that works for everyone, preparing for jobs of the future, and advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Topics of discussion include the challenges of encouraging businesses majority-owned by women to increase exports, the implications of an increasingly protectionist trade environment, how innovation and technology affect women, and what a focus on women in international trade means for men.

Expert panelists include:

  • Ailish Campbell, chief trade commissioner of Canada and assistant deputy minister at Global Affairs Canada
  • Meredith Lilly, associate professor and Simon Reisman Chair at Carleton’s Norman Paterson School of International Affairs and former adviser to former prime minister Stephen Harper
  • Nicole Verkindt, chief executive officer of OMX and Dragon on Next Gen Den

Sparwasser and Pamela Goldsmith-Jones, parliamentary secretary to the Minister of International Trade, will provide remarks. Maureen Boyd, director of the Carleton Initiative for Parliamentary and Diplomatic Engagement, will moderate the panel.
