Macdonald has been researching and writing about Latin America and global political economy since 1983. She has expertise in the areas of Latin American politics, Mexican politics, North American politics and Canadian foreign policy, as well as democracy and civil society.

She has published numerous articles in journals and edited collections on such issues as the role of non-governmental organizations in development, global civil society, citizenship struggles in Latin America, Canadian development assistance and the political impact of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).

Macdonald is a regular media commentator on issues related to Latin American and North American political economy.


Ian Lee

Lee has appeared multiple times before the House of Commons Finance and Senate Banking committees. He has been in every Government of Canada budget lockup since 2008. He attended pre-budget consultations with the Minister of Finance in 2009 and 2011.

He was employed in the financial services sector as a loan manager in consumer, mortgage and commercial credit for an American multinational and subsequently for the Bank of Montreal in the 1970s and early 1980s.

Higginbotham served in senior Canadian diplomatic posts in Washington, D.C., Hong Kong and Beijing, and as an assistant deputy minister in Transport Canada, Global Affairs Canada and the Canada School of Public Service (CSPS). Higginbotham was part of the team that negotiated the original Canada-U.S. Free Trade Agreement.

Hampson is a distinguished fellow and director of the Global Security and Politics program at the Centre for International Governance Innovation. He is an international affairs expert and has expertise in Canadian foreign policy and global governance, international organization, conflict resolution and analysis.

Hamspson is the author of Master of Persuasion: Brian Mulroney’s Global Legacy, which discusses the origins of NAFTA.
