Carleton University to Host Ottawa Leadership Luncheon with Alumna Zita Cobb

Carleton University will host the Ottawa Leadership Luncheon Spring 2017, featuring alumna Zita Cobb (BComm/80, LLD/13), president of Shorefast Foundation. Cobb will present the keynote address Community, Collaboration and Change: The Story of Shorefast Foundation and Renewal on Fogo Island, Newfoundland.

When: Thursday, June 1, 2017, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Where: Adam Room, Fairmont Chateau Laurier, 1 Rideau Street, Ottawa

The event is sold out but media are invited to attend.

Cobb grew up on Fogo Island, N.L. and pursued a career as a senior finance professional in the high-tech industry. She was the chief financial officer of JDS Fitel and senior vice-president of strategy for fiber optics manufacturer JDS Uniphase. In 2001, Cobb retired from her business career to focus her energies on helping her home community secure a resilient economic and cultural future.

Along with two of her brothers, Anthony and Alan, she founded the Shorefast Foundation and is now dedicated to Shorefast’s charitable programs and social businesses on Fogo Island.

Cobb will be presented with the A.D. Dunton Alumni Award of Distinction at the event.

The A.D. Dunton Alumni Award of Distinction is Carleton’s highest alumni honour. It is awarded annually by the Carleton University Alumni Association to a graduate in recognition of outstanding achievement or contribution in their field.
