2017 Travers Fellowship to be Awarded on Parliament Hill

The recipient of the annual $25,000 award created to honour the late Jim Travers and his passion for international affairs and Canadian foreign policy will be announced on Parliament Hill.

When:  Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2016, at 3:30 p.m.
Room 256-S, Centre Block, Parliament Hill

Following his death in March 2011, friends and colleagues established the R. James Travers Foreign Corresponding Fellowship as a tribute to the stellar journalism Travers practiced at home and abroad. The fellowship is administered by the School of Journalism and Communication at Carleton University and supports a significant foreign reporting project by a Canadian journalist or journalism student. A committee comprised of Travers’s family, friends and colleagues, as well as representatives of the school, selected this year’s winner from an impressive pool of candidates.

Travers was a reporter, foreign correspondent and general manager for Southam News. He also served as executive managing editor of the Toronto Star and editor of the Ottawa Citizen. At the time of his death, he was an award-winning national affairs columnist for the Toronto Star.
