Carleton University Mourns Death of Students Connor Boyd and Kyle Nash, Alumna Karen Krzyzewski

Dear Members of the Carleton Community,

Words have changed the course of history. They have inspired greatness and challenged us to aspire to achieve our goals. Today I wish that mine might offer some small measure of solace as we face together the sad news of the tragic collision in Ottawa and the realization that the lives of three members of the Carleton community have been lost.

On behalf of the students, faculty, staff and alumni of Carleton University, I wish to offer our deepest sympathies to the families of Carleton students Connor Boyd and Kyle Nash and Carleton alumna Karen Krzyzewski and to all of their friends, classmates and colleagues.

Connor, Kyle and Karen died in Wednesday’s accident, along with three other victims. In honour of their lives, the flags at the university will remain at the half-staff position.

Our thoughts are also with those individuals who were injured and witnessed this terrible accident.

For those members of the university community who are most affected by Connor and Kyle’s deaths, we encourage you to please consider accessing our Health and Counselling Services in Room 2600 of the Carleton Technology and Training Centre or by calling 613-520-6674. Faculty and staff can also be referred for counselling through the Employee Carleton’s Employee and Family Services Provider for free individual counselling. To make an appointment, call 613-725-5676 or visit www.fseapottawa.org

We will inform the community about plans for a memorial service. In the meantime, condolence books will be available for signing in the Tory Lobby at 9 a.m. on Friday.

The thoughts of the Carleton community remain with Connor, Kyle and Karen, their families and all of the victims of this tragic event.

Sincerely,
Roseann O’Reilly Runte
