Sharpening the Writers’ Quill at Carleton Workshop

Improve your poetry or short stories at the Carleton University’s writers’ workshop.

When:
Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Where:
Carleton University Bookstore.
The deadline for registration is Monday, Sept. 27, 2010 at 5 p.m.
20 participants maximum, 10 participants per section.

Regular admission is $40. Student admission is $30.

Details:
The workshop is designed to provide a brief introduction to the fundamentals of a good short story and poem.  Participants are invited to bring a short piece of their own work for review during the workshop.

Refreshments will be provided, although participants must bring their own lunch.

Background:
Mary Borsky and Rob McLennan will be instructing the Writers’ Workshop. Mary Borsky writes and teaches in Ottawa. She is the author of two collections of short stories, Influence of the Moon (Pocupine’s Quill) and Cobalt Blue (Thomas Allen). Mary has also written the Benny Bensky series for children.

Rob McLennan is the author of more than 20 trade books of poetry, fiction and non-fiction. His most recent titles are the poetry collections Glengarry, Wild Horses and Kate Street and a second novel, Missing Persons. An editor and publisher, he runs above/ground press, Chaudiere Books, The Garneau Review, seventeen seconds: a journal of poetry and poetics and the Ottawa poetry web annual ottawater. He spent the 2007-2008 academic year in Edmonton as writer-in-residence at the University of Alberta.
