Carleton’s OSVALDO JEANTY Named 2006 CIS Male Athlete of the Year

Osvaldo Jeanty, Carleton University’s fourth year Guard, from Gloucester, Ontario has been named the 2006 CIS Male Athlete of the Year, by the Borden Ladner Gervais (BLG) Awards Committee. Jeanty becomes the first Carleton Raven Student-Athlete to receive a BLG Award in the awards 14 year history.

Along with the honour of being named the Country’s Top Male Student-Athlete, Jeanty receives a $10,000 Scholarship for Graduate School, anywhere in Canada he wishes to pursue his education.

Jeanty led the Carleton University Ravens Men’s Basketball team to their fourth straight CIS National Basketball Championship this past March. Jeanty, a Commerce major has been named the CIS Men’s Basketball Championship Game Most Valuable Player the past four years.

During the 2005-06 season Jeanty led Carleton in scoring with 326 points, good for 14.8 points per game average. He was named the OUA East Player of the Year, the CIS Player of the Year, and OUA and Carleton University Male Athlete of the Year. In addition, he was named First Team All-Star at both the OUA and CIS level in 05-06.

At the 2006 CIS “Final 10″ Men’s Basketball Championships, Jeanty was named the Most Valuable Player of all three Carleton Games. In addition to being selected to the Tournament All-Star team, he was named the CIS “Final 10″ Tournament MVP winning every MVP opportunity he could have during the 2005-06 season.

Jeanty’s record as a student-athlete in OUA and CIS regular and post season games stands at 101-4 for a 96 percent winning margin.

Jeanty received the 14th annual BLG Award last evening, at the Jack Singer Concert Hall, in Calgary, Alberta. TSN will televise the BLG Awards Ceremony on May 13th, at 11AM Eastern Stardard Time.
